Migrant staff’s concerns being addressed: Senior J&K officer

Following the hot centered killings of minorities through militants within the Valley, Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Ok Pandurang Pole on Wednesday stepped in to handle considerations of migrant govt workers, assuring them of protection.

After visiting transit lodging for the migrant workers, Pole informed The Indian Express that a few of them had raised considerations that “have been taken note of”.

On Wednesday, The Indian Express reported that the Divisional Commissioner had, on October 9, directed Deputy Commissioners of all 10 districts in Kashmir to make sure that migrant workers needn’t depart the Valley and that “whosoever will be absent shall be dealt as per Service Rules”.

Pole attributed the instructions with reference to presence of workers and within the mins of the assembly to a “clerical error”, mentioning that the aim used to be safety and now not punitive motion.

“The main focus of the minutes of that meeting is on the security of the employees but as far as presence of employees is concerned, there are hardly any who have left. The difficulties that they have expressed are being addressed,” he stated. “Most of the migrant employees are attending work. Some may be on leave due to the festivities [Navratri] and some others go to Jammu around this time to drop off families and elderly as the winter approaches here.”

According to govt estimates, 3,841 migrant workers are these days posted in Kashmir.

However, apprehensions stay amongst a number of govt workers, who left for Jammu after the centered killings, over returning to the Valley.

Many are petrified of risking their lives through returning to paintings within the Valley.

“I had planned to take leave only for Diwali. The fear of inadequate security following the killings of minorities made me leave Kashmir in a hurry. It is not like we are evading work but the administration and the government have not made any concrete security arrangements for return,” stated a Kashmiri Pandit worker within the Education Department, who didn’t need to be named.

While the hot order has given upward thrust to apprehensions about protection, a number of workers, particularly the ones in decrease ranks, stated if motion is taken towards them, they’d have to choose from quitting the activity or returning with a continuing worry for lifestyles.

Some stated a couple of supervisors and District Development Officers have given a timeline of every week or so that you could go back to paintings. “Some supervisors are telling the employees from minority communities to return to work immediately. Some DDOs though have given the leeway of a few more days of leave before such employees can return to work,” some other worker stated.

Divisional Commissioner Pole stated measures had been being taken over the worries.

He stated some migrant households residing in privately employed lodging are involved for his or her protection. “We have told them that construction work for their accommodations is being expedited and in the next few days, they will be provided with government accommodation,” Pole stated.

A complete of 849 transit lodging are being built during Kashmir, consistent with the management.

Another fear raised through the migrant workers, Pole stated, is that during households the place each the husband and spouse are hired, they have got sought postings in the similar district. “This is also being taken up,” he stated.
